Things I Done

I was inspired whilst watching Fantasia. It amazes me how sound, taste, smells all have color. Just close your eyes and then you can see it.
P.S. Beth helped me “Pollock” it; we had a grand time :)
We were also inspired by the Thunder and Lightening Polka as we danced around slopping paint on the drive way.
Dad loved it.
So did the neighbors, I’m sure.
Notice the large red splat?? That was a rather exciting part of the song and I wanted tympani, dang-it!! Beth gave me that and more! ;p

This is my Hamsa (khamsa…gotta get that guttural Arabic I love so much :). It’s a palm-shaped good luck charm in the Middle East that protects against the Evil Eye. The evil eye, in many cultures, causes injury or bad luck because of envy or dislike. So you could pretty much cast the evil eye at someone by looking at them enviously.
Think about it.

Ohhh Audrey. What can I even say?
I’m currently reading What Would Audrey Do? By Pamela Keogh.
Now, I seriously ask myself WWAD? all the time.
As should you.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie.
We are kindred spirits, you and I.
I think I’ve done more art of him than of anything else.
It’s a lifelong love affair…

This is a sketch I did of Katharine Hepburn after I watched Woman of the Year.
SUCH a great movie.
It just gives me warm fuzzies every time to think that she and Spencer Tracy were actually falling in love in real life while they were filming it.
I adore all of the movies they did together.
Favorite couple.
Prolly.

Another little sketch I did of Audrey.

This is a mask I made in my ceramics class. Initially it was supposed to be a tribal African sort of thing but it (of course) went all Egyptian. You would never see any Egyptian art with this long of a face…but there you go.

I was really into making silhouettes for a while there and Beth was my first victim.

Ahh. Gauri and Bhuvan. Lagaan is one of my all time favorite movies. : )

This is something that I made for Beth’s room… I started out pretty cool and I liked the original idea… but I often have this problem of “going too far”. I just have to add one more thing… and then I feel like the whole thing is ruined. I like some parts, but other bits I could definitely do without.

Edward Elric. I LOVE Full Metal Alchemist. I’m usually not into anime at all, but I absolutely adore this show.

This is Alphonse (Al) Elric. Ed’s little brother. He’s muh fave : )

So this is another thing from Lagaan. There was a song that they were singing about Radha and Krishna. Krishna is the avatar (that's why he's blue. And this was before the movie....) of the Hindu god Vishnu and Radha was a simple gopi (cow hearder). Krishna was the most enchanting god and everyone would fall in love with him, but Radha enchanted even him, so she became a supreme goddess. They are viewed as the perfect couple in Hinduism. In a lot of the pictures that I've seen of them they are always really elegantly dressed, because they're gods (obviously) but when you think about it, she was a cow hearder, she wouldn't have had all of those expensive things. One way you can always spot Krishna is a peacock feather in his hair and and he's always playing a flute (which I didn't include..)

Henchy, from our Silent Film.

The Villain, also from the Silent Film.

Another Charlie. I did this for my propaganda class called, “A Smile Behind the Curtain”.
-Charlie Chaplin “The Tramp”
·         Film strips for the eyebrows
·         Film reels for eyes
·         The word “smile” is written on his hat (the song). That is what is being projected to the audience.
·         He is up on the movie screen , separated from the audience, can hide behind a curtain.
-The Audience
·         They are all “in the dark”
·         Represents all age groups
1.      Old man- older generation, set in their ways
2.      A mom- parents, guardians, teachers, authority types, influential
3.      A child- young and impressionable
4.      Young adults- teens, still very impressionable but starting to think for themselves

In one of my art classes we would always have to grab something out of this box of stuff to sketch and what not, and every time I would grab this red flower. Every time. I never even knew what type it was, but I was always drawn to it. This is my hand holding (which I later found out) a poppy. Now one of my favorite flowers.
Even though it makes opium… :s
